A Brief Overview Of Kodaikanal Solar Observatory

Visited by thousands of  honeymooners and leisure tourists every year, Kodaikanal is one of the most popular hill stations in India. It is located in Palani Hills of the Dindigul District in the Indian state, Tamil Nadu. After the famine that struck Madras Presidency in the year 1893, it was decided in the meeting of the UK Secretary of State and Indian Observatories Committee that a solar physics observatory needs being set up in Kodaikanal. The location was selected due to its dust-free and high-altitude location. The Kodaikanal Solar Observatory was founded on the 1st of April, 1899, and it became one of the well-known tourist attractions in Kodaikanal over the years. Among the various activities conducted at this place are public tours of the facility and night-time telescopic viewing of the sky by visitors.
